The famous face behind the Leave Britney Alone meme that broke the internet 15 years ago is now unrecognizable.

The influencer first shot to fame after recording a viral video called Leave Britney Alone. The tears, yelling and sheer determination to stand up for Britney Spears stood out to millions across the world. It came at a time when the celebrity was under intense public scrutiny and meltdown. It even led to other stars parodying the crying clip. But the Leave Britney Alone star behind the meme is drastically different now, and leaving their best life.

Leave Britney Alone broke the internet before it could be fixe

Back in 2007, breaking the internet didn’t happen as often as it does nowadays. It was years before the era of Kim Kardashian’s bum being drenched in champagne.

The person behind the video, Cara, went viral after she uploaded a recording of her screaming in the defense of Britney Spears.

The music icon was having a tough time and a very public breakdown at the time. The outpouring of media scrutiny angered Cara, who felt there was no other choice but to say how they were feeling online.

Despite it being parodied over and over again and copied onto Vine and other platforms thereafter, Cara still managed to come out on top. She sold the video as an NFT for $43,000. NFT’s are unique digital tokens encrypted with the creator’s signature. It verifies that version is authentic and is permanently attached to the NFT.

Similar to cryptocurrency, they live on blockchain networks. Cara says she used the cash to fund her transition.

Cara Cunningham, the face behind the 2007 video opened up about her new life as a trans woman earlier this year.

The 35-year-old began hormone therapy in 2021 and had a breast augmentation.

But Cara also wants facial feminization surgery and a Brazilian butt lift to complete her dream look. She told Mail Online she wants to work with the surgeon behind Dylan Mulvaney‘s transformation after seeing the TikTok star’s results.

One of OnlyFans top accounts

Cara briefly worked in the adult film industry for Lucas Entertainment before her transition. After, she joined OnlyFans as a model and has been billed as one of the top creators on the subscription service.

She said proudly: “I was in the top 0.1 per cent of creators and I won a World of Wonder Award for Best Adult Page.”

The viral YouTube clip may have started her success, but she still boasts millions of followers on Instagram and Facebook. They tune in to watch hilarious clips, rants and also the more private and sensitive areas of her life.

But she may still have a bitter feeling about the video platform that boosted her to international recognition. When asked if she’ll go back to YouTube, she replied: “That site’s still around?”

‘Embracing who I am’ and overcoming ‘fear of rejection’

Cara wrote about her transition back in 2021 on Instagram.

She penned: “It’s been 33 years coming, and I’m happy to be in a place where I can embrace who I am.

“I have put my identity and personal happiness aside for so long, out of fear of rejection or me not wanting to embarrass my family.”

The Tennessee native added: “I am transitioning, and I have no more apologies to make for who I am.”

The Leave Me Britney Alone star also said: “At my transition progresses, I will not be answering to Chris [Crocker]. It’s Cara.”

Family tragedy leaves her in tears

However, in the past few weeks the star has faced a personal tragedy that has left her heartbroken. Brenda Cunningham, or ‘Mamaw’ as Cara would call her, sadly passed away. After the news of her grandmother’s death, she posted a tribute online.

Many fans would know Mamaw from Cara’s hilarious videos over the years.

She wrote: “Mamaw, Brenda Cunningham has gone to heaven. She was surrounded at home by her husband (Papaw), me, my dad and my stepmom.

“There is no easy way to type the depth loss that is felt or the depth of what an amazing woman she was. She raised me as her own, from the age of 4 and got me out of foster care.”

Cara added: “She was my best friend, through my messiest moments. I know she is in heaven now with her mom Dorothy and sister Barbara. I promised her as I held her hand last night that I would learn how to make her potato salad and also take care of Papaw, and that she doesn’t have to worry and that one day we’ll all meet again”.
