In a shocking revelation, the Hollywood actress revealed she and her husband have been separated for more than six years and are ‘living separate lives.’
Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,” a spokesperson for the star exclusively told Page Six.
The news came as such a shock for fans as the Devil Wears Parada star was recently seen at the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023, wearing her wedding ring. However, the two were last publically spotted at the Oscars in 2018.
The couple first met in 1978, through Streep’s brother. At the time, the star was mourning the death of her ex-boyfriend, movie star John Cazale.
Less than a year after meeting, Don and Meryl tied the knot, in Streeps’ parent’s garden. Just a year after the event, the couple welcomed their first child, Henry Wolfe Gummer.
They then went on to have three more children, daughters Willa “Mamie” Gummer, Grace Gummer, and Louisa Jacobson, who all pursued a career in acting.
Gummer and Streep now also have five grandchildren, two from their son Henry, one from Marmie, and one from Grace.
Fans compare the couple to Will and Jada Smith
As Will and Jada made a similar confession just last week, of course, fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to make comparisons between the two.
“Jada Pinkett Smith: ‘Will and I have been separated since 2016.’ Meryl Streep: ‘Hold my beer,’ wrote one.
“Meryl Streep is saving us all from another Jada Pinkett-Smith interview,” penned another.
One concerned fan questioned: “Okay so first Jada & Will for seven years, Meryl Streep for six years… Who next?!”
“This is one reason that Will and Jada’s situation didn’t phase me It’s actually more common than I think people realize,” commented another.
